A loyal dog has been waiting for his busy road along the way for more than 80 days  daysafter the death of his master. গ্রামের জনসংখ্যা মাত্র ৫ জন!

একটি গ্রামের মোট জনসংখ্যা মাত্র পাঁচ । এর মধ্যে রয়েছেন একজন পুরুষ, তিনজন নারী ও একটি শিশু । সিলেটের বিশ্বনাথ উপজেলার খাজাঞ্চী ইউনিয়নে অবস্থিত এই ‘শ্রীমুখ’ গ্রামটি। খাজাঞ্চী ইউনিয়নের ৫ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের অন্তর্গত তেলিকোনা ও পশ্চিম নোয়াগাঁও গ্রামের মধ্যবর্তী গ্রাম হচ্ছে ‘শ্রীমুখ’। একসময় ওই গ্রামে (শ্রীমুখ) একটি হিন্দু পরিবার বসবাস করতেন। ১৯৬৪ সালে দাঙ্গার সময় ওই হিন্দু পরিবার তাদের বাড়িটি বর্তমান বাসিন্দা আফতাব আলীর পূর্ব পুরুষের কাছে বিক্রি করে অন্যত্র চলে যান। এরপর থেকে এই বাড়িতে আফতাব আলীর পরিবার বসবাস করে আসছেন। শ্রীমুখ গ্রামে মাত্র পাঁচজন সদস্য হওয়ায় তারা পার্শ্ববর্তী পশ্চিম নোয়াগাঁও গ্রামের পঞ্চায়েতের সঙ্গে রয়েছেন। গ্রামটির যাতায়াত ব্যবস্থা খুবই খারাপ। যাতায়াতের জন্য নেই কোনো রাস্তা। ছোট একটি আইল দিয়েই যাতায়াত করেন লোকজন। বিশেষ করে বর্ষা মৌসুমে এই গ্রামের লোকজন নৌকা ছাড়া বাড়ি থেকে বের হতে পারেন না। শুকনো মৌসুমেও কাদা পেরিয়ে তাদের চলাচল করতে হয়। ফলে গ্রামের বাসিন্দাদের অনেক দুর্ভোগ পোহাতে হচ্ছে। ছোট গ্রাম হওয়ায় তারা উন্নয়ন বঞ্চিত ও অবহেলিত রয়েছেন বলে মনে করছেন এ গ্রামের বাসিন...

27 dead in floods

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Torrential rains triggered flash floods and landslides on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, killing at least 27 people, including a dozen children at a school, officials said Saturday. A flash flood with mud and debris from landslides struck Mandailing Natal district in North Sumatra province and smashed an Islamic school in Muara Saladi village, where 29 children were swept away on Friday afternoon, said local police chief Irsan Sinuhaji. He said rescuers retrieved the bodies of 11 children from mud and rubble hours later. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency's spokesman, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said rescuers and villagers managed to rescue 17 other children and several teachers on Friday and pulled out the body of a child on Saturday near Aek Saladi river, close to the school.
